Patrick Cantlay makes significant mid-season equipment change
Patrick Cantlay has some new clubs in the bag at this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Patrick Cantlay is renowned for his reluctance to change equipment.
However, he recently decided to make a dramatic change to his setup with a brand new set of irons.
Cantlay, 32, has used Titleist 718 AP2 irons for nearly a decade, with the set first hitting shelves in 2017.
Despite having notched seven PGA Tour wins with the trusty old gamers in his bag, he has finally decided it's time for a change.
His new weapons of choice? A set of PING Blueprint S Irons, which several PING staffers, including Tony Finau and Louis Oosthuizen also use.

After months of testing, Cantlay settled on the set of forged irons just before the 2024 Masters, having worked with PING to calibrate his ideal setup starting in December of 2023.

The engineers at PING were able to measure the specs of his old Titleist irons in order to get the lie angle and lofts to Cantlay's exact specifications.
Discussing the custom fitting process, PING tour rep Spencer Rothluebber told GolfWRX:
"He's very particular visually. We worked a lot on lie angles and making sure the lofts on his irons were right. But it's also everything from top rail to leading edge. The numbers have to be there (spin and distance) for him, but it has to look right, too."
Since switching to his new irons, Cantlay has produced solid form, finishing 22nd at The Masters and tied for third at the RBC Heritage.
The American is currently playing in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Xander Schauffele.
After their opening round, the pair are tied for 27th.
