Mizuno JPX900 Tour irons review is a player iron with help bolted on
Mizuno is known for its irons – and for good reason. They produce some of the most stunning, soft and high performing wrenches on the market.
When a new product comes out of their Japanese headquarters, golfers the world make an excuse to head to their local club for a test.
The new JPX900 iron range consists of three products, each with distinct characteristics. The Tour version, for the best players, the Forged product, for those in the mid range, and the Hot Metal, offering maximum forgiveness.

Sleek, classy, sexy – it’s a 10/10 in this department. The JPX900 Tour has a stripped down look, with clean lines, and the brushed, matte finish looks absolutely superb.

At address, from four iron through PW, these irons look superb. Medium to thin top line, and the soles get slightly thicker towards the sole, for some extra help.
The set has a compact look, and we love the how it looks behind the ball.
Most will not be able to tell the difference between this and a blade regarding feel. Made form a single billet of Pure mild carbon steel, the feel is thick and solid, while also boasting that famous soft Mizuno feel. Makes a delightful “click” sound at impact.
Arguably, this is an MP iron dressed in JPX clothing. It sits somewhere between the MP-5 and MP-25 irons in terms of forgiveness and control.
The JPX900 Tour is definitely for the better player, but there is a good deal of forgiveness built in, which may tempt the mid handicapper that is a good ball striker.
The PowerFrame allows more weight to be positioned to the extremities of the iron, which provides that extra help. Hitting this consecutively with the MP-5 iron, players will notice how much more aid there is built in.
As you would expect from a better player iron, it’s easy to manipulate the ball, although there is a noticeable drop off in this regard compared to a traditional blade.
Looking at the back of the club, players will see there is a considerable amount of mass in the lower body, which helps get the ball airborne. This is particularly useful in the longer irons, which we were striking well.
Not as long as the forged iron, but offering more consistent yardages, which better players are looking for.
The JPX900 Tour may tempt some traditional blade players to jump ship. Offers a similar feel, but with a lot more forgiveness, especially in the longer irons.
Mizuno are masters of producing irons for better players, and have brought another stunning product to market for 2017.
