Mizuno JPX 925 Forged Irons Review
GolfMagic tests out the incredible new Mizuno JPX 925 Forged Irons, one of the best players distance irons for 2025.

Remarkable consistency even off-centre strikes
One of the best performing players distance irons of 2025
The Mizuno JPX 925 Forged is finally here and it’s a huge release—not just for Mizuno but for golfers seeking a players’ distance iron with the brand’s signature feel.
Sitting between the game improvement and players’ iron categories, the JPX 925 Forged joins Mizuno’s already strong lineup for 2025, which includes the impressive JPX 925 Hot Metal irons.
The JPX 925 iron is designed to compete with the TaylorMade P790 iron but with a distinct Mizuno touch.

From initial testing of this iron, there are a few things that stand out immediately—especially the triple-cut sole technology, which we'll get into shortly.
However, what makes this release particularly exciting is that players’ distance irons are among the most sought-after clubs on the market today.

First Impressions & Looks
Mizuno has done a great job of maintaining the classic JPX look, while still refining it for the JPX 925 Forged.
- Compact Profile: At address, it’s relatively small for a players’ distance iron, giving it a clean, refined aesthetic.
- Shaping: It retains Mizuno’s signature rounded shaping, whereas the TaylorMade P790 has a more angular design.
- Topline & Length: The topline is moderate, and the heel-to-toe length is compact—both characteristics you’d expect in this category.
However, while looks are important, what really matters to us is the feel and feedback across the face.
Feel & Mizuno’s Signature DNA
One of the biggest trade-offs in game improvement irons is that feel is often sacrificed in favour of forgiveness.
The best-feeling irons are usually Mizuno’s one-piece forged models, but the brand has worked hard to retain that signature feel even in this hollow-body design.
Mizuno has carefully tuned the vibration frequencies that golfers prefer, so when you strike the JPX 925 Forged, it still delivers that soft yet responsive sensation the company is known for.
There are very few irons that make us audibly react after impact, and Mizuno consistently manages to do so.
The JPX 925 Forged absolutely ticks that box.

Performance & Forgiveness
This iron is packed with technology, including:
- Contour Ellipse: This feature, already present in the JPX 925 Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro, optimises ball speed and forgiveness, particularly for high-toe strikes.
- Hollow-Body Construction: Enhances stability and increases forgiveness across the face.
Ball Speed & Carry Distance
During testing, we were consistently seeing a smash factor of 1.39–1.40, which is exceptional for a players’ distance iron.
- Carry Distance: Averaging 200 yards, with a low spin rate, which is typical for hollow-body constructions.
- Consistency: Even on mishits, ball speed remained incredibly stable, making this one of the most consistent irons I’ve tested in this category.

Comparison: Mizuno JPX 925 Forged vs TaylorMade P790
The TaylorMade P790 is arguably the most well-known players’ distance iron, and Mizuno has positioned the JPX 925 Forged as a direct competitor.
Where Mizuno has the edge is feel—this club retains Mizuno’s signature DNA, something many hollow-body irons struggle to achieve.
If we had to recommend a players’ distance iron other than the P790, it would without question be this one.

Should you purchase a set of Mizuno JPX 925 Forged Irons?
What we love about the JPX 925 Forged is that even on slight mishits, the feedback is clear without feeling harsh. It still delivers a solid shot, which is something many irons in this category fail to do.
A lot of players’ distance irons feel “punchy”—but Mizuno has found the perfect balance. The JPX 925 Forged combines strong ball speed with a premium forged feel, something few brands have managed to accomplish.
Looking at our testing data, the consistency was remarkable, even on off-centre strikes.
If you currently own the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged, you don’t need to rush for an upgrade—it’s an evolution rather than a revolution.
However, if you're in the market for a new players’ distance iron in 2025, this should be right at the top of your list.
