DJ puts new TaylorMade putter into bag at Players Championship
World number one used a TaylorMade Spider Mini in his practice round at TPC Sawgrass.
It appears Dustin Johnson is putting a new putter in rotation at the Players Championship this week as he looks to regain some form.
The six foot four inch 33-year-old hasn’t been inside a top-five in his last five events, which for most isn’t troubling, but it raises eyebrows when you’re world number one.
On Wednesday, DJ was seen using a prototype TaylorMade Mini Spider putter at TPC Sawgrass, which would be an odd decision if he were not to put it in play this week.
Johnson has been using the Spider Black version, so a transition to the smaller, red putter is hardly a big move.
The new putter is 15% smaller, has a heavier stainless steel frame, a new weight design at the back, and a thicker Pure Roll insert.
His putting hasn’t really been the big issue for DJ - he is T38 in strokes gained with the flat stick - rather his accuracy off the tee has been placing him in trouble.
