2021 TAYLORMADE P790 VS 2019 TAYLORMADE P790! IS NEW ALWAYS BETTER?!
Alex from GolfMagic compares the latest generation of the TaylorMade P790 irons to the previous version from 2019.
The third generation of the TaylorMade P790 irons has been released and it is fair to say that it is a welcome update to one of the best irons in the modern game.
Alex from GolfMagic had the privilege of taking samples of the 2019 and 2021 models to the driving range and the Kingfisher course at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate.
Both irons are very good and have proven to be very popular and although Alex held a preference for the 2021 version of the P790, this was only down to very small differences.
The new iron set has a pearlescent finish and you could say that the design is suited to better players, however, the forgiveness of the clubs make them suited to players of any ability.
The 2021 model looks more offset and when you hold the clubs in your hands, they are very aesthetically pleasing to look at before you hit your ball.
Both the 2019 and 2021 models instil confidence which is a sign of a great product. The most notable difference in each model is the flight of the ball.
The 2021 P790 generation provides a higher flight for your golf ball, whereas the 2019 model brings a low and piercing flight which makes the ball travel further.
Although the piercing flight of the older generation brings this advantage of distance, Alex noticed a better dispersion on the driving range with the 2021 P790 irons.
They are both fantastic models and when you strike them out of the middle of the clubface, it is very satisfying. The key question is: Is it worth spending £1,149 to switch to the new model?
The 2021 generation are fantastic golf clubs and if you consider it as a long-term investment, then it could well be worth the money.
