Watch Rory McIlroy send crowd BONKERS (!) with hole-out eagle
Rory McIlroy holed out for eagle then overcame a disastrous double bogey to make the cut at the Irish Open on the DP World Tour at The K Club.
Rory McIlroy holed out from 116 yards for eagle then overcame a double bogey to make the cut at the Irish Open.
McIlroy, 34, came into the DP World Tour event at The K Club nursing a back injury.
He complained he wasn't happy with his lack of practice and was very rusty in his opening 3-under 69.
The Ulsterman, who will soon head to Italy to play in his seventh Ryder Cup, was equally scrappy as he battled to make the cut.
McIlroy, the 2016 champion of this event, played his opening nine holes here in glorious conditions in level par.
He stiffed a mid-iron at the par-3 12th to within six feet to move to 4-under for the championship.
McIlroy followed that with three pars before holing out for eagle at No. 16 from 116 yards and sent the home crowd bonkers.

McIlroy immediately followed that with a disastrous double bogey at No. 17.
The problem was the tee shot as he sprayed his TP5x way right, hit his second short and still didn't find the putting surface with his third.
McIlroy did, however, take advantage of the iconic par-5 18th with a birdie to card a second round of 70 to sit at 5-under after 36 holes.
The cut was projected to be 2-under.
By day's end it was India's Shubhankar Sharma and England's Jordan Smith with a share of the lead at 13-under.
Sharma was on 59 watch having been 7-under through nine holes but eventually posted a 66. Smith carded an equally impressive 65.
Hurly Long, Scott Jamieson and Ross Fisher are tied on second at 11-under. Shane Lowry is also inside the top-10.
