Dumbarnie Links named Scotland's 'Best Golf Experience' and 'Best Golf Course'

Dumbarnie Links, a premier daily-fee links course located on the east coast of Scotland near St Andrews, was named Scotland’s ‘Best Golf Experience’ and the ‘Best Golf Course (£151 and over)’ at The Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.

The Scottish Golf Tourism Awards were held at the Fairmont St. Andrews on March 3 and were part of the fifth annual Scottish Golf Tourism Week, staged by PSP Media Group and supported by VisitScotland and Scottish Enterprise.

The Scottish Golf Tourism Awards are unique in the industry in that they are determined solely by public vote.

"To receive this kind of recognition so early in our existence and with so many great heavyweights for competition is remarkable,” said Dumbarnie Links General Manager David Scott.

“I'm absolutely delighted, particularly for my team, who work so hard, and for our designer and developer, Clive Clark. Clive's vision was to create a golf course to entertain golfers. He wanted it to be fun. That was his main premise. So many people have told us that he had succeeded but this award confirms it. I'm absolutely thrilled."

Other courses considered in the ‘Best Golf Experience’ and the ‘Best Golf Course (£151 and over)’ categories included Trump Turnberry, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links.

Dumbarnie Links opened for play on May 29, 2020 and has since received high acclaim throughout the golf world.

The stunning Clive Clark design, located eleven miles from St Andrews, measures 6,905-yards (can be stretched to 7,600 yards for professional competitions) and plays to a par of 72.

Dumbarnie Links is built upon land that is part of the historic 5,000-acre Balcarres Estate.  Its 345 acres of genuine sandy links land offers unobstructed views over Largo Bay and the Firth of Forth, a 10-mile wide stretch of water with views across to Muirfield, North Berwick and Edinburgh.

The routing is a departure from the usual. Instead of the traditional links out-and-back layout, Clark incorporated a mix of two big loops with elevated tees facing into the Firth of Forth. Dumbarnie Links hosted the 2021 Women’s Scottish Open August 9 – 15 and in November was named ‘World’s Best New Golf Course 2021’ at the 8th Annual World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony held in Dubai.

Scottish Golf Tourism Week is the country’s largest golf industry conference, giving Scottish suppliers the opportunity to meet tour operators from around the world with the aim of bringing golf tourists to Scotland.

Over 80 Scottish golf businesses and 80 international tour operators took part in the conference, comprising around 4,000 meetings and multiple networking sessions, ending with the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.

It is estimated that the tour operators in attendance will be responsible for bringing approximately 50,000 golf tourists into Scotland.
