Let's check in with Jordan Spieth

Spieth -1 (3*)

As ever, we had no idea what to expect from Jordan this week.

He's battling a wrist injury but it's been a splendid start so far.

Spieth birdied his first hole (the 10th), made a solid par at the par-3 11th and has another birdie look at 13.

Woods birdie!

Woods E (4)

Tiger is back to level par after taking advantage of the par-4 13th.

A tempo town wedge from the cat left him a 12-foot for birdie, which he duly rolled in.

14:13
Koepka starts with a par

Koepka E (1)

The defending champion started aggressively by attempting to find the par-5 10th in two hits.

Koepka missed the green right but found a decent lie at the bottom of the hill and left himself about 20 feet for birdie after his third.

His putt brushed the edge of the cup much to his annoyance.

An opening par for the five-time major champ.

14:09
Big roar for Tiger

Woods +1 (3)

Tiger is struggling (and sweating a bunch) early doors here.

Big cat can't reach the green at the par-4 12th in two and his third is well beyond the hole.

Not that it matts, though, as he rolled in the long par putt.

Cue roars.

14:03
McIlroy saves par at 11

McIlroy -1 (2)

Thanks Andy for all the updates so far.

I'll update you on all of the action over the next couple of hours.

McIlroy misses the green at the par-3 11th and scrambles well, holing a tricky putt from inside five feet down the hill to save his par.

Will this be McIlroy's week?

13:46
Bogey for Tiger Woods

After going long on the par-3 11th, Woods compounds the mistake by sending his second into the front bunker. He splashed out to six feet and thankfully holed the bogey putt. Woods is now 1-over par.

Birdie start for Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy

It's the perfect start for Rory McIlroy, who pours home a birdie from six feet at the par-5 10th.

McIlroy straight into the red.

13:38
Doug Ghim hits the front

Luke Donald found the deep stuff with his approach at the 5th and it's led to a first bogey of the day for the Englishman.

He's now been replaced at the top of the board by America's Doug Ghim, who holed a bomb for birdie on the 13th, his fourth hole of the day, to move to 2-under par.

Tiger Woods has just sent his tee shot over the back of the green into the deep stuff at the par-3 11th.

13:34
Par start for Tiger

Tiger Woods misses a 12-footer for birdie on the par-5 10th, his first hole of the day.

It's a solid par to start the day for the four-time US PGA champion.

Stunning shot from Schauffele
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele nearly holed out for an ace on the par-3 11th, his second hole of the day.

Schauffele tapped it home for birdie to move it to 1-under par.

The World No.3 has incredibly amassed 21 top-10 finishes since his last win on the PGA Tour.

Schauffele is going in search of his maiden major title this week.

13:29
Donald leads the way

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald is the early leader in R1.

The former World No.1 has birdied the 1st and 4th to move it to 2-under par.

No Block Party in 2024
Michael Block
Michael Block

PGA pro Michael Block is already having a first round to forget.

After a bogey at the 1st, Block has made a quadruple-bogey eight on the 2nd.

He has just bounced back with a birdie at the 4th though to move back to 4-over par.

13:16
Tiger Woods tees off

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods splits the middle of the fairway down his opening hole at the par-5 10th.

Woods is making his first start this week since finishing dead last (60th) of those that made the cut at The Masters.

The 15-time major champion has won the US PGA four times - 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007

13:01
We're off and away!

We're up and away here in R1 and it's an early birdie for former World No.1 Luke Donald at the 1st.

Donald was invited into this week's US PGA as a result of him being the European Ryder Cup captain.

The PGA of America, which organises the PGA Championship, also runs the Ryder Cup alongside Ryder Cup Europe.

Michael Block, who qualified for this week's PGA as a result of his incredible performance in finishing inside the top 10 at last year's PGA, has made an opening bogey.

10 minute delay to tee times

The PGA of America has confirmed tee times have been pushed back by just 10 minutes due to fog.

Block, Donald and Micheel will get play underway at 7.25am local time now.

Valhalla will suit the bombers!

Valhalla is likely to suit the biggest hitters this week as it's playing a mammoth 7609 yards.

We think there will be plenty of low scores though, and we fancy around the 20-under par mark to get the job done on this par-71 layout.

Here's a look at the card:

Welcome to LIVE R1 updates

Welcome to LIVE R1 updates, scores and commentary from the 2024 US PGA at wonderful Valhalla.

GolfMagic Editor Andy Roberts here to take you through the opening wave of play.

Block Party gets us underway within minutes at 7.15am (12.15pm UK) and then Tiger Woods will tee it up in less than an hour at 8.04am (1.04pm UK).

You've then not got long until the tournament favourites peg it up, with defending champion Brooks Koepka off at 8.37am and red-hot favourite Scottie Scheffler off some 11 minutes later.

Rory McIlroy has already endured something of a rollercoaster week following news of his shock divorce on Monday, but the World No.2 is feeling very good about his game off the back of consecutive wins on the PGA Tour at the Zurich Classic (alongside Shane Lowry) and a record fourth victory at Wells Fargo.
