16:47
Spieth bounces back
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth

Spieth -3 (9*)

Jordan Spieth rolls in a nice birdie putt, making amends for a bogey on the hole before.

He now sits four shots back from Schauffele.

16:36
Birdie for McIlroy

McIlroy -2 (10*)

After an incredible second shot, McIlroy sinks a straight-forward 6-footer for birdie to move to 2-under.

16:31
McIlroy flags it!

McIlroy -1 (9*)

McIlroy's approach shot on the 9th hits the flag and drops close to the pin for a great birdie chance.

An incredible shot from the right rough.

16:28
Birdie for Ludvig Aberg

Aberg +2 (13)

The Swedish phenom has found the going tough so far.

He played his first 12 holes in three-over but has just picked up a birdie at the par-3 third.

16:20
McIlroy saves par after water trouble

McIlroy -1 (9)

McIlroy was staring down the barrel of a bogey or worse at the par-5 18th.

He sprayed his drive into the water hazard, hacked a 7-iron back into position and knocked his fourth shot to within 15 feet.

McIlroy's putt finds the centre of the cup at perfect pace and that is a super effort.

16:18
Another birdie for Xander Schauffele

Schauffele -6 (12)

Xander stuffs his approach into the par-2 second to within six feet.

Can he make another one? Of course he can.

Lovely birdie.

McIlroy in the water

McIlroy -1 (8*)

Oh dear. Rors finds the water with his tee shot at the par-5 18th.

Earlier in the week he talked about the importance of keeping the big scores off his card.

Will he manage to salvage a par here?

15:58
First bogey of the day for Rory McIlroy

McIlroy -1 (8)

McIlroy drops a shot at the par-4 17th.

15:47
Max Homa moves into the red

Max holes his bunker shot on the 15th for his second birdie in three holes.

15:44
Xander Schauffele leads by two

Schauffele -5 (9)

Well, well.

What a start from X-Man!

A bogey-free nine holes with five birdies.

He leads the field by two after taking advantage of the par-5 18th.

15:43
Tony Finau ties for second

Finau -3 (5*)

The big American manages to birdie the 256-yard par-3 14th.

His towering iron shot into that green was a sight to behold. Superb stuff.

15:35
Koepka looking dialled

Koepka -1 (5*)

Brooks is looking super confident thus far.

He's got another great birdie look at the 15th.

15:25
LIV Golf's Lucas Herbert turns in two-under

Herbert -2 (9)

The Australian is one of 16 LIV players in the field at Valhalla.

He made a sloppy start with bogeys at 10 and 14.

But he's reeled off four birdies in a row from the 15th.

15:16
Outrageous birdie from Justin Thomas

Thomas E (7*)

JT just got the biggest cheer of the day after holing out for birdie at the par-4 16th.

His approach found the green but it was a little too short and dribbled off the front edge.

From there, JT hit a deft chip that checked on the second bounce and rolled in at perfect speed.

15:11
Dustin Johnson in a world of trouble

Johnson +1 (5*)

DJ is having a nightmare down the par-4 15th.

His drive is deep in the trees and this could end up being a big number...

15:04
Bogey for Woods

Woods +1 (5), McIlroy -2 (5)

Tiger was out of position on the par-4 15th so decided to lay up to a nice yardage.

His approach is long and he misses the putt low.

He's back to the wrong side of par.

Meanwhile, his playing partner McIlroy scrambles to save his par.

14:59
Great start from Hideki Matsuyama

Matsuyama -2 (4)

Hideki's appearance here was in doubt after suffering a fresh back injury before last week's PGA Tour event at Quail Hollow.

He rolls in a birdie putt from eight feet at the par-4 13th to move to two-under.

14:55
Back-to-back birdies for Tyrrell Hatton

Hatton -2 (3)

Tyrrell jars a long birdie putt at the 12th.

Great start from the Englishman.

14:53
Jordan Spieth ties for the lead

Spieth -3 (4)

Spieth rolls in his third birdie in four holes to join Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland atop the leaderboard at three-under.

The American will achieve the grand slam with a victory this week.

It's a feat only six golfers in history have achieved.

14:47
We have a new leader

Hovland -3 (4)

What a start from the Norwegian!

Before teeing it up we got word he was back working with the swing coach he sacked at the end of last year.

Birdies on 10, 12 and 13 have given the European Ryder Cup star the solo lead.

14:45
Another par for Tiger

Woods E (4)

Tiger finds the green at the 256-yard par-3 14th.

The only problem is he's miles away and facing a horrible two-putt.

No problem, as he lags it to within inches and taps in for his three.

14:40
Brooks Koepka under par

Koepka -1 (3)

Brooksy rolls in his first birdie of the day at the par-4 12th.

The American looks confident and comfortable early doors.

14:37
McIlroy ties for the lead

McIlroy -2 (4*)

Rors has picked up another birdie.

He sent a towering iron into 13 and took advantage.

McIlroy joins Ghim, Schauffele, Hovland, Theegala and Spieth on two-under.
