Rory McIlroy watches on as Justin Thomas takes shots at LIV Golf pro
Justin Thomas could not resist a little dig at LIV Golf pro Mito Pereira as Rory McIlroy sat next to him.
Justin Thomas was seen firing shots at LIV Golf pro Mito Pereira while Rory McIlroy sat next to him during last year's US PGA champions dinner speech.
Thomas' savage burn was captured during the second season of 'Full Swing', which went live on Netflix on 6 March 2024.
The former World No.1 gave a speech ahead of the 2023 US PGA at Oak Hill in Rochester.
Thomas etched his name on the famous Wanamaker Trophy following a playoff victory over Will Zalatoris at Southern Hills in May 2022.
Things could and should have been very different that week, however, as Pereira held a one-stroke lead down the par-4 18th only to find the penalty area down the right flank.
It led to a double-bogey six and Pereira did not even make the playoff.
Pereira was bidding to become the first player from Chile to win a major and the first PGA Tour rookie in 11 years.
As captured by Netflix on Full Swing 2, which aired for viewers today, Thomas paid tribute to Pereira for helping him win a second PGA.
With McIlroy and other US PGA champions watching on at the table, Thomas said:
We won't spoil the rest of the clip for you just in case you have not got round to watching any of Full Swing 2 on Netflix.
Here's a look at JT's speech:
At the time of the 2022 US PGA, Pereira was still competing on the PGA Tour.
But it did not take long for him to be convinced to join his good friend and compatriot Joaquin Niemann on LIV Golf.
GolfMagic confirmed the first news of Pereira being linked with a move to the LIV Golf League just months after Pereira threw away the US PGA.
