US Open Golf 2022 LIVE: 3rd Round Scores & Updates: Zalatoris & Fitzpatrick lead

Will Zalatoris and Matthew Fitzpatrick will be in the final group at the 2022 US Open.

On a brutal day of Saturday scoring in windy, firm conditions, Zalatoris, 25, posted a brilliant 67 to move to 4-under par.

England's Fitzpatrick, 27, had moved one shot ahead after a birdie at 17 but he handed it back on 18 to card a very solid round of 68.

Zalatoris and Fitzpatrick have both been playing some exceptional golf on the PGA Tour of late but neither has yet tasted victory on the circuit.

They will both be looking to set that record straight on Sunday.

Zalatoris lost out in a playoff to Justin Thomas at the US PGA Championship last month, while Fitzpatrick has notched three top-10 finishes in his last four starts.

But it's far from a two-horse race at the US Open, especially with a number of star names hot on their heels.

Defending champion Jon Rahm is just one shot back on 3-under par, while World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is two back alongside Adam Hadwin and Keegan Bradley.

Scheffler had moved to 6-under par earlier in the round but the wheels quickly came off him thereafter with a double-bogey at 11 followed by bogeys at 12, 13 and 14.

The reigning Masters champion did recover a shot back on 17 though and he remains in contention for a fifth title of the season.

Rory McIlroy struggled for much of the day but he is still in the hunt for a first major in eight years at 1-under par alongside an in-form Sam Burns.

1st Tee announcer fail

Justin Thomas might be one of the world's best players and the reigning US PGA champion, but apparently the 1st tee announcer had never heard of him!

JT looked over in sheer amazement!

Don't rule out DJ

Dustin Johnson opens with a birdie at the 1st.

The 2016 US Open champion moves to level par and five off the pace.

Only 2 players under par right now

There are currently 28 players out on the course.

Only 2 of them are under par for the round -  Todd Sinnott (-2 thru 7), Grayson Murray (-1 thru 7)

Bryson goes bogey-bogey

Bryson started brightly with a birdie at the 1st but he has now gone bogey, bogey on 2 and 3 to fall back to 3-over par for the tournament.

Bogeys happening all over the shop right now.

Anyone breaking 70 today deserves a gold medal.

Bryson chips in for birdie at the 1st

Bryson DeChambeau is still some way off the lead but he has made the first early move of the day with a birdie at the par-4 1st.

The big-hitting American finds himself at 1-over par for the tournament and six shots off the pace.

DeChambeau, who won the US Open in 2020, has committed to play in the next LIV Golf tournament in Portland at the end of the month.

He will now face a ban on the PGA Tour for doing so - as will all the other Saudi golf rebels.

Welcome to R3 LIVE from the US Open

Welcome to our live commentary of the third round of the US Open.

Andy here taking you through the next two hours of play.

The final group is not heading out until 8.45pm (UK time), but the early groups featuring the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth are off and running.

Pars are hard to come by at the moment - the wind has really picked up and we could be in for a brutal day of scoring.

Every hole right now is playing over par, to give you some idea of the difficulty.

Hang on to your hats!
