Golf fans tore into Justin Thomas after the American endured a nightmare start to the US Open

Thomas came into the third men's major of the year hoping to finally kickstart his 2024 campaign.

In case you weren't aware, the two-time major champion has been struggling with his game for quite some time.

LIVE: US OPEN SECOND ROUND

The 31-year-old missed the cut out of absolutely nowhere in April at the 2024 Masters

That came after he made the shock decision to part ways with legendary caddie Jim 'Bones' Mackay.

And it appears his tilt at the US Open is already over after carding an opening seven-over 77.

He did salvage a birdie at the last, but it was clear Thomas was fuming.

At the time of publication, only three players in the field (Matteo Manasserro, Rikuya Hoshino and Phil Mickelson) were below JT.

"It's over for Justin Thomas," one golf fan wrote on X after a frustrated Thomas finished his round.

Another added: "The downfall of Justin Thomas needs to be studied."

This person joked: "Might be time for Justin Thomas to switch his caddie?"

Whilst this person tore into the golfer: "Justin Thomas is a baby. As soon as things go wrong, he throws a fit and wants everyone to be sad for him."

Thomas will have quite a long time now to prepare for his second round.

He's due out on Friday at 6.25pm BST alongside Collin Morikawa and Brooks Koepka

His playing partners fared much better, with Morikawa and Koepka both posting 70.

Thomas declined to do any media interviews after his opening round.

Instead, he went straight back to work.

And he was joined by a familiar face:
