Jack Nicklaus jokes about scores after playing three rounds at Augusta!
Record major champion Jack Nicklaus played three rounds of golf at Augusta National after The Masters, and here's what he shot...
Jack Nicklaus has revealed he played three rounds at Augusta National straight after Scottie Scheffler slipped on his second green jacket in three years last month, following an interview with Golfweek.
Nicklaus, 84, admitted at the back end of last season he was unsure when he would play the game again, simply because it was so tough for him to get around the course.
But after dusting off his clubs for annual honorary starter duties at The Masters several weeks ago, Nicklaus picked back up the golf bug and played three rounds at Augusta National following Scheffler's win.
So what did he score?
“I shot 88, 90 and 91," Nicklaus told Golfweek.
"That’s a 269 for three rounds, which is a pretty good four-round score," he added while stifling a smile.
"That’s what I play anymore. They don’t have any forward tees at Augusta. I can’t play 6,400 yards.
"I hit the ball 190 yards anymore, if I kill it. I played once last year, once the year before, and I’ve played four times this year already.”
Given Nicklaus turned 84 in January this year, a score of 16-over 88 at famed Augusta National in prime Masters conditions is a fair effort for sure, especially off the same tees.
A round of 88 was also just five shots off the worst score carded at the 2024 Masters.
Tiger Woods even shot an 82 on day three.
Nice job, Mr Nicklaus.
