Report: Venue for 2031 Ryder Cup chosen
According to the Spanish news website Ten Golf, Spain is set to host the 2031 Ryder Cup at Camiral Golf & Wellness in Barcelona.
The 2031 Ryder Cup is heading to Spain, according to a report.
Per Ten Golf, contracts have now been signed and the biennial dust-up will head to Camiral Golf and Wellness in Barcelona.
The venue - previously known as PGA Catalunya - will host the Cup for the very first time.
It has previously played host to the Spanish Open on three occasions as well as Final Qualifying for the DP World Tour.
"The Catalan government, headed by Salvador Illa, plans to announce the celebration of the Ryder Cup in 2031 at the end of this month of October, beginning of November at the latest."
Spain has hosted the Ryder Cup once before.
In 1997, the match was held at the notoriously difficult Valderrama Golf Club in Sotogrande.
The late, great Seve Ballesteros skippered the European team to a tense one point victory over the U.S.
If the report by Ten Golf turns out to be true, the news will be a huge blow to those that have been trying to bring the Ryder Cup back to England.
Multiple English groups have been in pursuit of hosting the cup.
The London Club has been touted as a possible venue, as well as new developments at Hulton Park in Bolton and Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire.
England's Tommy Fleetwood has previously thrown his weight behind the Luton Hoo project.
"It is an amazing landscape," Fleetwood said last year.
"And the prospect of a purpose-built stadium course here would be fantastic for everyone concerned — for golf, for the tournament and for the game in England."
England has not staged a Ryder Cup since 2002 at The Belfry.
Since then, the Ryder Cup has been played The K Club, Celtic Manor, Gleneagles, Le Golf National and Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.
The 2025 Ryder Cup will be staged at Bethpage Black in New York and will head to Adare Manor in Ireland in two years' time.
