"You had an interesting week!" fans react to Amanda Balionis, Rory McIlroy interview
PGA Tour fans react to Amanda Balionis' latest interview with Rory McIlroy in the final round of the RBC Canadian Open in light of their romance rumours on social media.
CBS reporter Amanda Balionis stifled a laugh and a smile as she told Rory McIlroy he had an 'interesting week' during her final-round interview with him at the RBC Canadian Open.
Golf fans have since been reacting to their 'hug' after the interview, too.
An unsubstantiated report from the Daily Mail had suggested McIlroy, 35, was romantically involved with Balionis, 38, following his shock divorce with wife Erica Stoll.
This followed a viral social media post linking McIlroy with Balionis, who has been working as a CBS golf reporter on their PGA Tour coverage for seven years.
It is understood Balionis is also going through a divorce, as she has been seen without her wedding ring during TV coverage.
Another unsubstantiated report in Us Weekly earlier this week, however, poured cold water on any romance links by declaring Balionis and McIlroy just have a 'professional relationship'.
Nevertheless, it would appear Balionis couldn't help but smirk at the social media rumours when she interviewed McIlroy following his impressive final-round 64 at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Canada on Sunday night.
McIlroy could not reel in his European Ryder Cup teammate Bob MacIntyre in the final round as he went in search of a third RBC Canadian Open title, but he did chalk up a top-five finish.
MacIntyre went on to seal an emotional first PGA Tour title with his Dad Dougie on the bag.
Here's how Balionis and McIlroy's interaction went down on Sunday...
"Joining us now is Rory McIlroy, tied for the low round of the day. We're watching right now, do you think what you just did could be enough?" said Balionis with a beaming smile.
McIlroy replied: "Ah, I don't think so. I wish it was. Had a couple of good opportunities on the way in. A good chance at 14 that just missed, and also on 15 too. I mean, selfishly it would be nice if it was enough, but Bob is a good friend of mine, Ryder Cup teammate, and it would be really good to see him get the job done."
Balionis then said: "You had an interesting week. I know you on Thursday, you said you played the back nine blind, and then on Friday you felt out of whack, then you found something in your swing. Talk about the progression with this week and where you find yourself. It must give yourself a ton of confidence moving forward?"
McIlroy replied: "Yeah, didn't do a lot of practice last week. Only saw nine holes in practice. Swing was a bit of out of sorts, worked on the range Friday night and found something. Played a great weekend, 11-under. Played both rounds with Tom Kim, which was a lot of fun, love being out there with him. We had a great weekend, probably won't be enough, but something to build on going into Memorial and the US Open."
