Scotland's Bob MacIntyre lands maiden PGA Tour title at RBC Canadian Open
European Ryder Cup hero Bob MacIntyre is now a PGA Tour winner in his debut season following a gutsy victory at the RBC Canadian Open.
Scotland's Bob MacIntyre sealed an emotional first title on the PGA Tour with a narrow one-shot victory at the RBC Canadian Open.
The win was made even sweeter for MacIntyre, 27, with his father Dougie acting as a stand-in caddie for him at Hamilton Golf & Country Club this week.
MacIntyre carded a 2-under 68 to finish 16-under par and see out a narrow one-shot victory over playing partner Ben Griffin, who posted a solid 65.
The European Ryder Cup hero is competing in his first full season on the PGA Tour having earned his card through the DP World Tour Rankings in 2023.
The win for MacIntyre comes in his 45th start on the PGA Tour, and it marks the third of his career to go alongside his two DP World Tour titles.
MacIntyre now becomes just the sixth Scotsman in the modern era to win on the PGA Tour.
He will now vault into the world's top 40 on Monday morning, and he also scoops a healthy $1.7m first prize.
MacIntyre also earns an exemption on the PGA Tour through to the end of 2026.
Frenchman Victor Perez birdied the 18th for a joint best of the day 64 to finish solo third on 14-under par.
That was one shot ahead of Rory McIlroy and Tom Kim, who also shot a 64 to finish T4.
With his Dad standing beside him, an emotional MacIntyre told CBS' Amanda Balionis:
"I'm speechless to be honest. It's just everything for me and my family, my girlfriend, my team. I can't believe I've done it with him on the bag. I'm crying with joy but laughing because I didn't think it was possible."
MacIntyre added:
"I was coming down the last and Dad was trying to keep me focused and to just swing smooth. In my head, I wasn't listening, I just wanted to win this for my Dad. This is the guy that taught me the game of golf, and I just can't believe I've done it with him on the bag."
Dad Dougie said to Balionis:
"Unbelievable. I'm a grass cutter, not a caddie. I got phoned last Saturday night, I was sitting on the couch, 8pm Saturday. I was busy at work but 8am the next morning I was on a flight and just wow."
Ahead of the final round, MacIntyre revealed how his Dad's pep talk helped him surge into a four-shot lead heading into the final round.
MacIntyre admittted he will now be heading home to Oban, Scotland, to soak in the celebrations.
The Scot has now qualified for next week's Memorial Tournament as a result of his maiden PGA Tour title, should he wish to take up the late invite to Muirfield Village.
