Wyndham Clark accused by fans of 'cheating' in rough at The Players Championship
Wyndham Clark accused by golf fans of cheating in the rough for a second week running on the PGA Tour.
Wyndham Clark has been accused by golf fans of cheating for a second week running on the PGA Tour following video footage of him taking a drop on the par-4 12th in the final round of The Players Championship.
Clark went left and long with his approach shot into the 12th and his ball came to rest by a drain.
The reigning US Open champion was entitled to a free drop but it was the manner in which Clark went about his business that sent a number of PGA Tour fans up in arms during the final round coverage at Sawgrass.
Video footage of Clark's drop appeared on social media and hundreds of fans instantly questioned the American's motives.
Many felt Clark was trying to gain an advantage by stomping on the ground where he wanted to take his drop.
"Clark dropped it right where he’d been stepping for 2 minutes… hmmm," tweeted one account.
Another commented: "Definitely cheating. Come on."

At the time of taking his drop on the 12th, Clark was just one shot off the pace as he went in search of his first Players title.
He took his drop and then chipped up beautifully from there to make his par.
Clark agonisingly came up one shot shy of Scottie Scheffler with a heartbreaking horseshoe birdie attempt on 18.
