Watch: Hideki Matsuyama's club toss goes horribly wrong and hits PGA Tour fan in the head
Hideki Matsuyama dropped his driver in disgust after an errant shot at the Sony Open and his club ended up hitting a spectator in the head.
PGA Tour star Hideki Matsuyama was left red-faced after his famed club toss went horribly wrong during the first round of the Sony Open.
The moment at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu arrived on the par-5 9th hole.
Matsuyama was level par for the day, having made one birdie, one bogey and six pars.
Shot tracking showed Matsuyama pulled his tee shot a tad left towards the fairway trap.
In complete disgust, the former Matsuyama dropped his club at the top of his back swing.
But horrifyingly, his Srixon ZX5 Mk driver then went hurtling towards the gallery of spectators at pace.
And as the video below shows, the poor soul can be seen clutching their face.
Matsuyama also sprinted over the the spectator immediately to make sure they were okay.
Thankfully, they were okay, but Matsuyama's heart would have been firmly in his mouth.
The former Masters champion has a habit of dropping his club in disappointment and, on most occasions, the result of his shot usually ends up okay.
Matsuyama went on to make a birdie on the hole but this will obviously be the most talked about moment of the day.

The Sony Open is the second PGA Tour event of the season.
Matsuyama claimed victory in the first last week at The Sentry.
It was his 11th win on Tour since making his debut in 2013 at the age of 20.
Matsuyama also won the first signature event of the new campaign with a record low score of 35-under.
The golfer beat Cameron Smith's record, which he set in 2022, by one stroke.
