Scottie Scheffler on fan yelling at Max Homa: "You can't not hear it"
Scottie Scheffler fired a second round of 66 at the PGA Tour's biggest party to give himself a chance going into the weekend at TPC Scottsdale.
Scottie Scheffler says the crowds at the WM Phoenix Open have an 'overall positive' effect although they can get into some players' heads.
World No.1 Scheffler fired a bogey-free second round of 5-under 66 at TPC Scottsdale on Friday.
Although he has a lot of work to do, the reigning Masters champion believes he has given himself a chance to land his 14th PGA Tour title this weekend.
"The crowd is a bit more of a factor this week than it is other weeks," Scheffler said, alluding to the raucous par-3 16th.
Scheffler told reporters it's a 'balancing act' over whether to listen to the calls, especially when some are offering unsolicited advice.
He said: "I think of yesterday, we were on No. 6 and Max [Homa] has a putt from 12 or 15 feet, and a guy in the crowd yells out, 'It's dead straight'.
"And then Max starts reading the putt, and he's like, 'Stop reading it, Max, it's dead straight', and he's yelling at him. So like you can't not hear it.

Playing in front of the fans at the WM Phoenix Open is unlike any other golf tournament. Scottie Scheffler explains pic.twitter.com/az00OMZMgX
"So sometimes you have to make a conscious effort to be like, I'm either going to totally ignore that person or maybe he's sitting here all day, maybe he knows something.
"So it's a tough balancing act out there on the course where sometimes you listen and sometimes you don't.
"But a lot of it you can't avoid hearing so you do your best to block it out over the shot."
The 2025 WM Phoenix Open is Scheffler's second event of 2025.
He missed the first month of the new campaign after undergoing surgery on his right hand after cutting it on the stem of a wine glass over Christmas.
