Rory McIlroy reveals fan heckle during PGA Tour event that cracked him up
PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy revealed he was tickled pink by a heckle from a fan during the opening round of the RBC Canadian Open.
A hungover Rory McIlroy revealed one heckle by a PGA Tour spectator during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open really made him laugh.
McIlroy had a bit of a sore head after he spent Wednesday evening celebrating his caddie Harry Diamond's birthday.
The 35-year-old Northern Irishman started slow here at Hamilton Golf & Country Club on Thursday, notching 10 pars in a row before finding a bit of something on the back nine to return a scorecard of four-under 66.
McIlroy - whose relationship status with Amanda Balionis has recently been confirmed - had a bit of an adventure on the 17th hole.
His tee shot was a tad right and his TP5x ended up in the hospitality area.
McIlroy told reporters: "Some guy yelled out, 'You need a wrist band to get in here'.
"So that was pretty funny."
McIlroy managed to compose himself to hit his next shot missed the green right at the par-5. He escaped the hole with a par.
At the beginning of the week McIlroy spoke out about the tragic suicide of Grayson Murray.
He urged everyone to be kinder to each other in the aftermath of his death.
And he also revealed his biggest regret about the LIV Golf saga.
Now, he wants to purely focus on playing golf.
He has a busy stretch ahead, with the U.S. Open on the horizon and the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon next month.
"I think when all of us are able to focus purely on the golf again that would be welcomed by everyone," he said.
"But, yeah, I've played a lot of golf this year. I was on a four-week stretch sort of through Augusta and then I had two weeks Quail Hollow and PGA and now I'm on another four-week stretch.
"So, yeah, I've played a lot, but it's been good. It's been, I've started to play my way into form and I've played well the last few weeks and hopefully I can just keep that going.
