The Players Championship prize money 2025: How much Rory McIlroy, others won
The Players Championship prize money 2025: Check out how much the PGA Tour stars all won after Rory McIlroy defeated J.J. Spaun in a playoff.
Rory McIlroy won the 2025 Players Championship with a dramatic playoff victory over J.J. Spaun.
McIlroy and the American returned to famed TPC Sawgrass on Monday after a lengthy weather delay forced the PGA Tour's flagship event into a fifth day.
The Northern Irishman, 35, struck first in the aggregate three-hole playoff by making birdie on the par-5 16th when Spaun could only manage a par.
Spaun then watched in horror as his tee shot at the iconic par-3 17th sailed over the green into the water.
McIlroy found the putting surface with his tee shot but walked off the green with a bogey after a sloppy three-putt from inside 20ft.
Still, he had a three-shot lead at the par-4 closer after Spaun made a double bogey on the 17th.
Both players flared their tee shots right on the 18th but a bogey was enough for McIlroy to become a two-time winner of The Players.
Unsurprisingly, there was a huge amout of prize money up for grabs.
The 2025 edition of The Players Championship had a total prize purse of $25m.
That means McIlroy walked away with the top prize of $4.5m after landing his 28th PGA Tour title.
Spaun collected $2.75m for his efforts.
