PGA Tour stars on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL? "It was in a rushed state"
PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler says Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's golf league, TGL, was in 'a rushed state' and will benefit from being delayed.
Rickie Fowler says Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's indoor golf league was 'in a rushed state' and will benefit from being delayed.
Woods and McIlroy announced TGL last August through their joint venture TMRW Sports.
And just as players were finally being assigned teams the whole project was delayed by up to a year.
The six-team league was supposed to debut on 9 January 2024 but damage to the venue in Florida has pushed the project back.
PGA Tour star Fowler has suggested the delay will ultimately be a good thing.
"It was already in a rushed state so I think it's only going to benefit it to start in '25," he told reporters after partnering Lexi Thompson in the Grant Thornton Invitational.
Added Billy Horschel: "Like anything in life, the more time you have the better you have of getting things right and getting things done correctly."
Horschel only signed up to TGL in February.
He continued: "We were all excited to get started this year but we were going to be missing some things.
"We were all rushing to get it going. Yes, it sucks we have to wait a year.
"But I think it allow us to get everything under control a little bit better, better understanding about how things are going to work.
"It give us a year to continue to market and talk about what TGL's about, how it's going to work."
McIlroy and Woods also put a positive spin on the delay.
The Northern Irishman previously said: "The postponement brings mixed feelings of disappointment and excitement.
"Above all, we are happy that no one was injured. Given the circumstances, while the delay is disappointing, the postponement will allow us to regroup, refocus and return stronger."
TGL will feature 15-hole matches being played over two-hour primetime slots on ESPN.
The league has not provided a timeline for how long repairs to the site venue are likely to take.
The arena holds will hold up to 1,600 spectators and is roughly half the size of an NFL field.
