PGA Tour star Ludvig Aberg has revealed he lost eight pounds with a mystery illness.

Aberg came under the weather a few weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

The young Swede took the 18-hole lead but then looked visibly uncomfortable and ultimately laboured to a share of 42nd place.

Aberg returned to action at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am - won by Rory McIlroy - but withdrew after the first round.

"It was rough for a while," Aberg told reporters at the Genesis Invitational.

The stomach bug he had turned into body aches, chills and vomiting.

"I sort of woke up in the middle of the night," he said.

"And I started throwing up and I started [seeing] all these things and it wasn't very enjoyable."

He said he felt okay for a few days, hence why he decided to play at Pebble Beach.

"And then at Pebble it kind of shifted to like feverish and almost like body aches and shivering," he said.

"First, I was really hot, then I got really cold. Lost about eight pounds total in two days, so that's not the right way to lose weight."

Aberg is still none the wiser over what exactly he had.

"It was nice to get a week off last week and sort of just eat as much as I could to get back to training as normal, working out is normal," he said.

Plenty of steak and fish have been on the menu. "Probably got a couple of pounds left to gain," he said. "But I'm getting there."

At the time of writing, Aberg is tied for fifth after 36 holes at The Genesis.

Davis Thompson leads by one from Scottie Scheffler. Denny McCarthy and the aforementioned McIlroy are also in contention.

Scheffler only hit five fairways in round two and still managed to shoot 67.

Asked if there was 'something off' with his driver, a sarcastic Scheffler told a reporter that he was going to head to the range and rebuild his whole swing.

"That's probably it," he said

Notables to miss the cut included Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Max Homa, Billy Horschel and Robert MacIntyre.
