PGA Tour star Justin Thomas to reporter: "That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me"
PGA Tour superstar Justin Thomas joined the Golf Channel broadcast after the second round of the ZOZO Championship in Japan.
Justin Thomas may have a future on the mic, judging by his short but entertaining stint calling the action at the ZOZO Championship.
Thomas joined the Golf Channel team on Friday after carding a second round of 4-under 66 that left him firmly in contention heading into the weekend in Japan.
There were a number of memorable moments, so GolfMagic decided to take you through them.
"Buddy, would you be happy if you were sucking at your job?"
It's no secret that Thomas has struggled for form since winning the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
The former World No.1 was regarded as somewhat fortunate to get picked for the 2023 Ryder Cup after a poor season, despite his stellar record in Cups representing Team USA.
Things picked up a tad in the 2023-2024 season, although Thomas is still without a win since claiming his second major title.
Opening up on the subject, Thomas told GC's George Savaricas and Graham DeLaet: "This game is so hard and can really take so much out of you and beat you up some but you're also never as far it seems.
"Is it the chicken or the egg? Was I hitting it bad and not playing well because my mental game wasn’t good or was it vice-versa."
He added: "I always tell people that I'm sorry, but golf is my job and if I'm not playing good golf it’s pretty hard for me to be happy.
"I understand everyone has different outlooks, but it's like you need to be out there and enjoy it, but it's like, buddy, would you be happy if you were sucking at your job?
"So, no, I’m not going to be happy."
"You've got to love him for whatever it is"
JT's good pal Rickie Fowler is also in the field.
Fowler is rocking a mullet these days.
Last year, it was all about the moustache.
Still, Thomas isn't a huge fan.
"I'm not a real big 'Mullet Rick' fan I like the short hair Rickie," he said.
"It's wild, he looks about five to eight years younger when he has his hair short.
"He always has something – it's the stache, it's the hair – but it's Rick, you know, you've got to love him for whatever it is."
"You're going to be a great dad"
Thomas and his wife Jillian will become parents soon.
The American revealed in his pre-tournament news conference that he's not prepared at all to become a father.
But then again, who is?
The aforementioned DeLaet told Thomas that he was going to be a great dad before he signed off.
His reply?
"That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
