Jason Day has withdrawn from this week's Players Championship on the PGA Tour due to illness.

Day, 37, confirmed his absence from the PGA Tour's flagship event of the season at famed TPC Sawgrass just before the opening day's play on Thursday.

The former World No.1 has been replaced in The Players Championship field by Danny Walker.

The WD is a bitter blow for Day, who had been playing nicely on the eve of the tournament with a T8 at last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

He had also finished T3 at The American Express in his second start of the season.

However, Day remains winless on the PGA Tour since May 2023.

He has slipped to a current 33rd in the world.

Day will now be looking to get over his illness and get himself prepared for a crack at a second major title and first at The Masters from 10-13 April.

The Australian has come close to slipping on the coveted Green Jacket a number of occassions at Augusta National.

Day told GolfMagic last week he is unsure if Augusta National officials will let him wear what his apparel sponsor Malbon Golf has lined up for him at the 2025 Masters.

At the 2024 Masters, Day was asked to remove a knitted sweater vest because Augusta National deemed it 'too busy'.

The 13-time PGA Tour winner has turned heads repeatedly ever since he signed with the clothing brand last January following his split with Nike Golf.

Day, who also told us he's back working with former coach Colin Swatton, claims he is still waiting to hear back from Augusta chiefs as to whether his Masters x Malbon Golf apparel will be given a green light.

"So we have to get clearance on the scripting this year," Day revealed in an exclusive interview with GolfMagic
