PGA Tour pro snaps driver in costly finish at The Sentry

PGA Tour pro Brendon Todd was left to rue snapping his driver on the 14th tee en route to a very costly finish at The Sentry

Todd, 38, was nicely placed inside the top 10 as he stepped aboard the short par-4 14th.

But then it all went Pete Tong for the three-time PGA Tour champion.

Todd sliced his drive well right of the green and into the out of bounds.

Only in the process he hurled his driver into the ground and the club snapped in half!

It was his brand new TaylorMade Qi10, too.

Todd was therefore left without a driver to use on the final five holes, two of which were reachable par-5s.

Kevin Kisner, who was making his NBC broadcasting debut at The Sentry, summed up the situation rather bluntly:

"That is just going to cost him major FedEx Cup points down the stretch."

It most certainly did as Todd tumbled down the board on holes 14-18.

Todd, who last year set the dullest record in PGA Tour history, went on to double the 14th before going on to par the par-5 15th.

He bounced back with a birdie on the par-4 16th but then doubled the par-4 17th.

Todd could not reach the green in two at the par-5 18th due to not having his driver and he settled for a par for a round of 3-under 70.

It left him at 18-under par in a tie for 33rd

Todd walked out of Kapalua with a cheque for $113,000 and 27 FedEx Cup points - but had he made a par on 14 and two birdies on the closing par-5s then he would have walked away with $450,000 and 150 points.

Chris Kirk scooped the jackpot of $3.8m and 700 FedEx Cup points after prevailing by one stroke on 29-under par.

It was Kirk's seventh career victory on the PGA Tour.
