PGA Tour pro enters record books after matching incredible record
PGA Tour player matches 72-hole record last set in 1992.
PGA Tour pro Adam Long became just the sixth player ever to hit every fairway in a 72-hole event on the circuit at the World Wide Technology Championship that was contested on the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal golf course.
Long, 36, incredibly hit 56/56 fairways.
According to stats guru Justin Ray, the American becomes the first player to hit every fairway in a 72-hole PGA Tour event since Brian Claar at the 1992 Memorial.
Ray also confirms Long is just the sixth Tour player to do this in the last 40 seasons on the circuit.
Calvin Peete performed the feat twice at both the 1986 and 1987 Memorial.
Long has now found 58 consecutive fairways on the PGA Tour.
If he finds the first two fairways in Bermuda this week then he will set the outright record of 60 consecutive fairways on Tour.
Claar currently holds the record with 59.
Long ended up finishing in a tie for 23rd in the WWT Championship on 17-under par.
That was 10 strokes behind winner Erik van Rooyen, who finished birdie-birdie-eagle to take the title by two strokes.
Incredibly the field average for fairways hit at the WWT Championship last week was 90%.
The Tour average for fairways hit during the 2023 season is 58.7%.
Woods' golf course was therefore very friendly for the players off the tee - hence the low scores.
Long is just the 6th player to do this in the last 40 seasons on the PGA Tour. Incredibly, Calvin Peete did it twice - in back to back years at the Memorial (1986 & 1987).

Long has only won the once on the PGA Tour.
That win came at the 2019 Desert Classic.
