Beau Hossler admitted he was 'a little salty' after he was denied a drop on the 72nd hole of the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Hossler was tied for the lead on 23-under when he stood up to the 18th hole at The Country Club of Jackson.

The American blasted his tee shot well left and was stuck behind a tree and absolutely no shot to the green.

Most observers expected Hossler to punch his golf ball back into the fairway to set up and unlikely, but doable, up-and-down to extend the tournament.

But what followed was a lengthy discussion with a rules official that became somewhat heated.

Hossler implored the official to think of the time Matt Kuchar was given a controversial TIO ruling at the Wyndham Championship earlier in the season.

Yet his efforts were in vain.

Hossler did manage to make par but lost on the first playoff hole to Kevin Yu.

Yu became the 12th first time winner on Tour in 2024 and also pocketed a huge amount of prize money

As for Hossler, he conceded that he was 'salty' about what transpired.

But he remained positive.

"The main positive is just getting under the gun and performing," he said.

"It's tough to get in a position to win on the PGA Tour

"I was proud to get there, and then proud of my performance.

"Even though I didn't have my best stuff on the back nine I grinded really hard.

"[I] hit some really quality shots under the gun, and that's all you can do.

"Obviously Kevin played a beautiful hole in the playoff."

He added: "[It] definitely stings, but you got to tip your hat."

Hossler said it was nice to feel pressure.

"Nice to hit good shots when you're nervous," he said.

"You know, like I said, I'm a little disappointed with the outcome.

"I'm a little salty right now. All in [all], [there was] a lot of really good stuff this week."

Next up on the FedEx Cup Fall schedule is the Black Desert Championship.

It is a new event and will feature a $7.5m purse.
