Key player in PGA Tour-PIF talks: "It's not worth talking about"
PGA Tour veteran Adam Scott has expressed frustration at the lack of progress between the North American circuit and LIV Golf's backers.
Adam Scott says the PGA Tour's ongoing discussions with the financiers of LIV Golf are 'not worth talking about'.
Scott provided the shock update to the Associated Press after competing in The Sentry.
The Australian is part of the Tour's transaction subcommittee alongside Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that is negotiating directly representatives of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
At the end of 2024 there were reports a deal was essentially agreed between the main tours, with the PIF taking a six per cent stake in PGA Tour Enterprises.
But still no meaningful announcement has been made since the 6 June 2023 armistice.
Asked by AP how the talks were going, Scott replied matter-of-factly: "Same as always, it sucks."
He continued: "It's not worth talking about. Obviously, it's so complex and when the government department is involved, I think we sit and just wait for them."
Scott was alluding to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The aforementioned McIlroy previously referenced this before competing in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last September.
The Northern Irishman described the DOJ as the main stumbling block to completing a peace deal, along with high-profile golfers on both sides of the divide acting selfishly.
McIlroy also hinted the European-based DP World Tour could go it alone with the PIF and compete directly with the PGA.
Scott suggested that something could be announced soon.
"Soon there should be more movement," he said.
"But it's very difficult to bring all of this together, certainly from a competitions layout. It's a lot.
"Someone has to compromise their product. I don’t like the sound of that generally.
"Who's going to do it? Everyone a little bit? That's not good. Someone a lot? That person is not going to be happy."
LIV Golf begin their third full season next month in Riyadh.
It has been reported the rival league is on the verge of announcing a major TV network deal with Fox to broadcast all 14 of their events.
LIV are yet to announce any major signings for the forthcoming campaign.
It is understood, though, that Jon Rahm has finally filled the vacant spot on his Legion XIII side.
Irish youngster Tom McKibbin is said to have agreed a multi-year deal with LIV.
McKibbin earned his first PGA Tour card at the end of last season but looks as though he will give that up.
Elsewhere, Ben Campbell has joined Bubba Watson's team and Branden Grace has re-signed with the Stingers.
