Justin Thomas brutally trolled by LIV team after MC at the Players Championship
Justin Thomas was ridiculed by Talor Gooch's LIV Golf team after the PGA Tour star missed the cut at the Players Championship.
Justin Thomas was mocked with a scissor emoji by a LIV Golf team after he missed the cut at the Players Championship.
Things were finally looking up for the American golfer so far this season after a lacklustre 2022-2023 campaign which culminated in his Ryder Cup inclusion being questioned.
But the 30-year-old double major champion missed his second cut of the year at the $25m flagship PGA Tour event at TPC Sawgrass.
Thomas carded rounds of 71 and 74 which saw him miss out on the weekend by two strokes.
He wasn't the only star name to miss out on the weekend in Florida as Jordan Spieth also had a bit of a nightmare.
Perhaps Spieth's mind was on meeting PIF officials next week.
As for Thomas, he began the start of the week by defending the strength of the field at golf's 'fifth major'.
Understandably, there were questions of whether a win this week would be diminished given the absence of some LIV players.
The 2022 champion, Cameron Smith, isn't in the field. Nor is Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson or Jon Rahm.
Thomas chose his words very deliberately by saying that if he were to win then the victory wouldn't come with an asterisk.
It was an obvious reference to Talor Gooch's remark about the major championships going forward.
In case you don't remember that comment, a frustrated Gooch stated that should Rory McIlroy win the grand slam then it could come with an asterisk owing to the absence of rival league players.
Gooch's LIV team, Smash, decided to troll Thomas:

What did Thomas say?
A reporter asked Thomas: "When you won here in 2021 and for many years before that, this tournament was build as the best field in golf. With the LIV guys not here anymore, that's probably not the case. How do you feel about that?"
And Thomas replied: "I mean, it's still been the best field in golf for many previous years.
"Yeah, you could always make an argument that there's other tournaments that are or are not.
"The PGA Championship has been the deepest field in terms of the most top 100 players, and I'm not just saying that for selfish reasons, it's just the truth.
"I know what you mean in terms of how world ranking and guys that are or aren't on the Tour anymore, but that's just kind of the reality that -- and what they have put themselves in, and, yeah, I mean, I'm not going to have an asterisk next to my name for winning this because the field wasn't too good, right?"
