Rookie Hayden Springer finished eagle-birdie to shoot a sensational round of 59 in the first round of the John Deere Classic.

Springer, who earned his PGA Tour card via Q-School in December 2023, made eight birdies and two eagles to shoot the 14th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.

The American missed seven of his first eight cuts on the PGA Tour this season.

But he put all of that to one side in the first round at TPC Deere Run.

Springer burst out the blocks with a joint-record 27 on the front nine.

Despite making five pars in a row from the 10th, Springer sprinted to the finish line by going birdie-par-eagle-birdie to shoot a 12-under 59.

Springer's eagle on 17 came with a 40-yard chip shot from the left rough.

He then buried a 12-footer on the 18th to join the 59 club on the PGA Tour.

The magical round hauled Springer into a commanding four-shot lead when he finished his round.

Springer isn't the only man to shoot 59 at the John Deere Classic.

Paul Goydos shot 59 in the first round back in 2010.

Springer's 59 comes just two weeks after Cameron Young fired the same number.

A total of 14 sub-60s have now been shot on the PGA Tour.

Jim Furyk holds the lowest round of 58 in PGA Tour history, something he achieved at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
