Former PGA Tour pro makes claim about Jordan Spieth's poor form
Former PGA Tour player Smylie Kaufman has put forward his theory as to why three-time major champion Jordan Spieth is so hit and miss these days.
Former PGA Tour player Smylie Kaufman has put forward his theory why Jordan Spieth isn't having the season he envisioned.
Spieth finished third in his first start of the calendar year at The Sentry but since then is yet to really contend.
The three-time major champion has not posted a top-five finish since, missed five cuts - including the 2024 Masters - and was even disqualified in one event for signing his scorecard incorrectly.
Spieth has now fallen outside the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking and, alarmingly, sits outside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings, which would make him exempt for all of next year's signature events.
His last win came at the 2022 RBC Heritage after his resurgent two seasons that saw him finally end a four-year winless drought.
"It's funny, right? Because if you go and look at the stats, you get confused because if you would have supplanted his driving ability this year, in any other year, he's winning,” Kaufman told GOLF's Subpar.
In recent years Spieth has been wild with his driver but, for some reason, this department appears to be one of his strengths.
Kaufman added: "His putting was good to start the year, but his putting lately has really tailed off and now he's got an iron and wedge game that's just mediocre from his standards.
