Tiger Woods' teenage son Charlie Woods struggled on day one of the 2025 Junior Invitational.

The 16-year-old is competing in the four-day event that is known in golf's circles as the junior version of The Masters.

It was founded in 2011 and past winners include the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Akshay Bhatia, Joaquin Niemann and Austin Eckroat.

Round one began on Wednesday and Charlie carded a 6-over 78. He will begin the second in 32nd place out of 36 competitors.

Charlie hit two birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey at Sage Valley Golf Club.

The official Junior Invitational X feed clipped and re-shared a few of Charlie's highlights from day one, complete with shot tracers.

Charlie thought he drained a long birdie putt on the first hole and raised his putter in the air akin to his father, only to drop to his knees when his golf ball cruelly kissed the left edge.

Take a look at the highlights here:

Charlie isn't the only high-profile name in the field.

Donald Trump's granddaughter Kai, 17, is among 24 female golfers taking part.

Kai shot a 17-over 89 on day one and is currently last.

Joshua Bai, from New Zealand, leads the boys competition on 5-under par.

Tiger wasn't on site to watch Charlie on day one.

The 15-time major champion recently had surgery on a ruptured Achilles.

Tiger said he was ramping up his practice sessions ahead of the 2025 Masters when he felt pain in his left heel.

The procedure was successful, his surgeon said in a statement.

He has not put a timescale on his recovery but it is understood he will miss all of the majors in 2025.

Tiger has not played in an official PGA Tour event since last July's Open championship.

He has played in TGL events and even competed in the uber-exclusive Seminole Pro-Member on 3 March.

Rory McIlroy later said he hopes to see Tiger in 2026.

"It sucks," McIlroy told reporters before the 2025 Players Championship

"He doesn't have much luck when it comes to injuries and his body.

"Achilles surgeries obviously aren't fun. [I'm] hoping he's in good spirits and hoping he's doing OK.

"We obviously won't see him play golf this year, and hopefully we see him maybe play in 2026."

McIlroy was asked if he thought Tiger would return to competitive golf.

"I don't know what's in his head," McIlroy said.

"But, judging by prior behaviour, he'll definitely try."
