Billy Horschel believes "the rough is not long enough" at this week's Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches on the PGA Tour.

Billy Horschel hilariously took on a gator in the first round of the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches and then sounded off on the condition of PGA National.

The Champion Course at PGA National in Florida was once considered one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour.

But the first round of the tournament, which was formerly known as the Honda Classic, yielded the lowest first-round scores in the event's history on Thursday.

Jake Knapp even shot a course-record 12-under 59 to become the 15th player to fire a sub-60 round on the PGA Tour.

Florida gator Horschel, who opened with a solid 5-under 66, admits he was "disappointed" to see the rough down at the Jack Nicklaus re-designed course.

Horschel had a hilarious exchange with an alligator during the round.

Watch that here:

After the round, Horschel then sounded off about the condition of his home tournament.

Horschel wants a sterner test.

Horschel told reporters:

"Yeah, there was no wind so it helps tremendously. You've got to tip your hat to him. He shot a 12-under par 59 at PGA National, which no one ever thought. I know we had a discussion earlier this week and I've probably changed my tune a little bit. I think the overseed has -- the rough is not long enough. It's not penal enough when you miss the fairway.

"I really wish we would just play this as a straight Bermuda. From tee to green, everything be straight Bermuda. I know it doesn't look prettier on TV and I know that's one of the reasons why it's overseeded.

"But it is unfortunate because for me, growing up in Florida, the one advantage I have is being born and raised on Bermudagrass and understanding the intricacies of playing on Bermudagrass and chipping off it and judging the lie out of it. I don't have that advantage as maybe someone playing out in California on poa annua greens, feeling comfortable on poa annua greens.

"So it is a little disappointing that -- I'd say the condition of the course is very scorable, but at the same time, you've still got to go out there, you've still got to hit golf shots, you've still got to make putts. But this will be, right now, if scoring sort of stays the way it is going into the afternoon, I'm going to suspect because there's not much wind projected this afternoon, this will be the lowest scoring average in the history of this tournament by I'm going to say a shot and a half.

"It's just a little disappointing because it's such a great test of golf, and like I said, the conditions, no wind, we've had rain this week, which makes it softer."
