Report: PGA Tour pro hit with penalty at The Open after breaking golf rule
Si Woo Kim was hit with a one-shot penalty during the first round of The 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, according to a report.
PGA Tour golfer Si Woo Kim was hit with a one-shot penalty during the first round of The Open, according to a report.
Kim fell foul of the golf rules after he caused his ball to move whilst he was addressing his second shot on the sixth fairway at Royal Troon.
The news was first reported by NCG.
Kim managed to save his par on the hole despite breaking rule 9.4, holing an 18-footer for his five.
The 29-year-old went on to card a five-over 76 in the opening round of the final men's major of the year.
He was playing alongside Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns.
Who is Si Woo Kim?
Si Woo Kim is a South Korean professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour.
He was born in 1985 and turned pro in 2012.
His first victory came at the 2016 Wyndham Championship.
A year later he won the coveted Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
He was the youngest ever winner of golf's 'fifth major' at aged 21.
What happened on day one of The Open?
Shane Lowry was the pick of the bunch on Thursday.
Lowry tore round the Ayrshire links.
The 2019 claret jug winner carded a five-under 66.
England's Dan Brown was the surprise name at the top of the leaderboard after carding a 65 in the afternoon wave.
Justin Rose - who had to qualify for the major - also started well, as did Justin Thomas.
Thomas was in a desperate situation with his game at Royal Liverpool last year.
And righting those wrongs was clearly on his mind today.
Elsewhere, it was a dispiriting opening for Rory McIlroy, who slumped to a seven-over 78 that leaves him 12 shots off the lead.
McIlroy said it was one of the least enjoyable days he has ever had on a golf course with the way he struck it.
And 15-time major champion Tiger Woods also struggled.
Woods was one worse than McIlroy, but refused to be anything but optimistic about his future.
