Former Open champ rages (!) at PGA of America after WD at senior major
Former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia has accused the PGA of America for 'screwing' him by not letting him use a golf cart at the Senior PGA Championship.
Former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia accused the PGA of America of treating him unfairly after he withdrew from the Senior PGA Championship.
Calcavecchia took to X to outline his dissatisfaction with the governing body of the major.
His chief complaint was that he wasn't allowed to use a golf cart whereas Bernhard Langer was.
Langer was out of action for several months earlier in the year after rupturing his achilles.
Sadly for the German it meant he missed playing in his final Masters.
Remarkably, Langer returned to professional golf three months after the freak injury.
Langer made the cut at Harbor Shores Golf Club this week, carding scores of 74 and 71 for a three-over total.
Calcavecchia did not and withdrew after 18 holes.
He has suffered multiple health issues in recent years and, as he explained, has had surgeries on his back and knees.
Calcavecchia claimed he was 'screwed' by the PGA of America.
Clearly, he believes everybody in the field should be allowed to ride a cart or nobody can.
In the thread, Calcavecchia wrote 'LOL' when it was suggested he would be the next player to defect to the LIV Golf League.
And he believes the rules will likely be bent once again to accommodate Tiger Woods in two years' time when he turns 50.
Calcavecchia posted on X:
We'll have to wait and see if the PGA of America have a response for the 1989 Open champion.
At the halfway stage of the second senior major of the year, it was LIV Golf's Richard Bland who held the lead.
The Englishman posted rounds of 64 and 66 to reach 12-under after 36 holes to lead Scott Dunlap by one.
Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, Mike Weir and Chris DiMarco was also inside the top-10.
