Only the winner of LIV Golf Promotions will get a spot on the breakaway tour for the 2025 season, according to a report.

In 2023, the Saudi-backed league held their inaugural promotions event Abu Dhabi which featured a $1.5m prize purse and three golden tickets to the lucrative league.

Finland's Kalle Samooja, Zimbabwe's Kieran Vincent and Japan's Jinichiro Zozuma were the three golfers who secured their positions.

Samooja and Vincent were both relegated in 2024 and it's likely LIV are already shopping around for replacements before their fourth season that gets underway next February.

Marquee signing Jon Rahm is reportedly keen on a Callaway staffer replacing the aforementioned Vincent on his Legion XIII.

Angel Hidalgo, who recently pipped Rahm to victory in a thrilling playoff at the Spanish Open in Madrid, has been linked with a switch, although that report is unsubstantiated.

As for the promotions event in December, there will reportedly be only one ticket available.

The claim was made by ProGolfCritic on X, who suggested there will be four wildcard spots available in 2025.

Hudson Swafford and Anthony Kim did not play for any teams this year and were two of LIV's wildcards.

Kim returned to the game for the first time since he disappeared from the PGA Tour in 2012.

Swafford was part of Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers side before he was sidelined with a lengthy injury.

There were reports LIV only held the Promotions event in the first place to help them secure Official World Golf Ranking accreditation.

LIV were officially denied in their bid for points last October.

Their commissioner, Greg Norman, later confirmed LIV decided to abandon their bid altogether.

Sergio Garcia recently told GolfMagic what he thinks about this topic.

"To be totally honest, I don't think world ranking points are worth it anymore for us," he said.

"Even if we got world ranking points now with the rankings we have like myself down in 390th, it just wouldn't really help the majority of us.

"We were looking at it and for someone to be able to stay in the top 50 in the world, you would probably have to win like 10 of the 14 tournaments on LIV Golf."

Our Andy Roberts wrote a lengthy feature here outlining why he thinks Garcia is right about that.

When is the LIV Golf Promotions event?

LIV Golf Promotions will be played over 8-10 December at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates.

It will be played over 72 holes, with the final day featuring a 36-hole shootout.
