Axed LIV Golf pro confirms shorts rule amended ahead of 2025 LIV Golf League season

'Pants all year' - LIV Golf players will be forced to wear trousers all season just like on the PGA Tour, according to Pat Perez.

LIV Golf players will be forced to wear trousers all season and no longer given an option to wear shorts, according to axed player Pat Perez.

A relaxed dress code had been deployed by the Saudi backed breakaway league.

LIV Golf players had been able to wear shorts during competition rounds - a rule not applied on the rival PGA Tour

The DP World Tour does, however, allow shorts to be worn on the course providing conditions deem it necessary.

There had been a rumour on social media that only trousers would be permitted in future LIV Golf events, and Perez has now confirmed it to be true.

"I've heard the players are wearing pants all year," Perez said on LIV Golf's Fairway To Heaven podcast.

"I got it confirmed the other day that the players are wearing pants and the first place I thought about was Singapore [due to the intense heat and humidity]."

Players will be permitted to wear golf shorts during practice rounds but no longer in tournament rounds.

Perez was this season removed from Dustin Johnson's 4Aces GC after three years on the team.

He was booted from the team and replaced by former European Ryder Cup player Thomas Pieters.

Perez will now act as an on-course reporter for FOX at LIV Golf League events.

LIV Golf have made a number of new calls ahead of the opening event at LIV Golf Riyadh, which will be played under the lights at Riyadh GC in Saudi Arabia from 6-8 February.

All four player scores on each team over all three rounds will now count towards the final team score.

Only the top three scores for the first two rounds were previously counted.

The change will likely provide even greater volatility to the team leaderboard, as well as place a premium on all four players bringing their A-game from the first hole.

Jon Rahm, who signed to LIV Golf in a reported $600m deal last season, is looking to defend his Individual Championship in 2025.

Rahm is a big fan of all four player scores counting towards the team total across all three rounds.

"I like it, I think it benefits a team like ours," said Legion XIII captain Rahm.

"I think we have four really strong players that are really consistent.

"So I think it's better for the league in general for everybody to matter every single day because Sunday is usually really, really fun. At least last year it was incredibly fun in that regard. But I think it's better for the teams and the players' development, as well, for every round to count. I'm very much in favour of it."

Rahm's team comprises of himself, Tyrrell Hatton, Caleb Surratt and new signing Tom McKibbin, who was once mentored by Rory McIlroy

It's fair to say McKibbin's decision to turn down a PGA Tour card for the first time and sign for LIV Golf did not sit well with McIlroy.

LIV Golf also confirmed ahead of the first round in Riyadh that Anthony Kim will be back for a second straight season, but once again without a team and as a wildcard player.

Chieh-Po Lee will also be a wildcard.
