Jon Rahm raises fresh question marks over Ryder Cup future: 'Not good for anybody...'
Report: Jon Rahm still does not know when his appeal against DP World Tour sanctions will be heard, just nine months away from the Ryder Cup.
Jon Rahm admits he has still been given no update by the DP World Tour on when his appeal against sanctions will be heard, despite having played his first full season on the LIV Golf League.
Rahm along with his Legion XIII and European Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton appealed their fines by the DP World Tour for playing in conflicting tournaments on the Saudi-bankrolled league in 2024.
That decision meant both LIV Golf superstars were allowed back on the former European Tour circuit as of September 2024, and they could maintain their memberships of the DP World Tour in order to keep their European Ryder Cup hopes for 2025 alive.
Adrian Meronk of Cleeks GC was also the third member to have appealed his DP World Tour fine.
But in the latest update on the situation provided by bunkered's Ben Parsons ahead of this week's Dubai Desert Classic, former World No.1 Rahm admits he has still not been provided an update as to when their appeals will be heard.
Rahm, who along with Hatton has no intention of paying off the fines, reveals he hopes the DP World Tour do not try to settle the appeals prior to the Ryder Cup from 26-28 September at Bethpage Black in New York.
That's so he and Hatton can definitely play in the biennial contest no matter what decision is made.
"I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future but I can tell you my plan is to be on that team at Bethpage," Rahm told bunkered in Dubai.
"I don’t know what’s going to happen, and I’m hoping they don’t try to settle the appeal before the Ryder Cup. I don’t think that would be good for anybody. But my plan is to be at Bethpage."
Should Rahm and Hatton lose their future hearing then there would be serious question marks over their Ryder Cup futures, unless they decided to pay off their fines to remain members of the DP World Tour.
It should be noted that it took just a matter of months for an arbitration panel to rule against European Ryder Cup heroes Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood in 2023.
That resulted in both players terminating their long-time memberships of the DP World Tour and removing them from future Ryder Cup consideration, at least as things stand.
Rahm and Hatton are both competing in the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour this week.
They will return to compete on Legion XIII in the first event of the 2025 LIV Golf League in Saudi Arabia from 6-8 February.
Legion XIII are soon expected to officially confirm the signing of DP World Tour player Tom McKibbin, a golfer who has been mentored by Rory McIlroy for much of his golf career.
McIlroy of course has been a vocal critic of LIV Golf since its inception in 2022.
