Golfer Matt Wallace breaks silence after 'despicable' outburst
Professional golfer Matt Wallace has broken his silence after he was filmed losing his temper during the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Matt Wallace has broken his silence after he became the latest professional golfer to come under fire for an outburst of anger on the course.
The Englishman was in contention for a top three finish and huge pay day during the final round of the DP World Tour Championship on Sunday.
But he made a costly bogey down the stretch in Dubai and completely lost his temper.
Wallace twirled his club after playing his approach into the par-5 14th, but his effort from 180 yards was short and settled in the trap that was guarding the green.
The 34-year-old promptly slammed his club into the turf, taking a sizeable chunk out of the fairway.
Golf fans accused Wallace and his caddie Jamie Lane of having the temerity to not even repair the damage.
Wallace eventually finished seven behind champion Rory McIlroy in a tie for 11th at the DP World Tour finale, earning €135,489.78.
He has now broken his silence with a post on X, but he decided not to address the big talking point.
Instead, he implored his looper to enjoy his upcoming wedding as well as making it clear that he expects a big year in 2025.
Wallace thinks he's in with a solid chance of qualifying for the European Ryder Cup team.
Sky Sports blast Tyrrell Hatton
Wallace wasn't alone in rubbing golf fans the wrong way last week.
Tyrrell Hatton also turned heads after he snapped a club in frustration on the same hole that Wallace lost his rag.
The 33-year-old was told by Sky Sports' Ewen Murray that he now needs to change as he is becoming 'a terrible influence' on the next generation.
Hatton returned for the next round with the words 'be happy' written on his glove, along with a smiley face.
Former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley also offered a damning verdict on the LIV Golf pro.
"Tyrrell is not the bad guy he comes across here," McGinley said.
"All of us who know him behind the scenes know a different Tyrrell to what we see on the golf course.
"His behaviour is not acceptable from what we see, no doubt about it.
"I think tonight when he cools down and his team, his wife have words with him, there will be a lot of humble pie.
"He will be embarrassed with what he did today and how he behaved.
"He will know, like a lot of people who have any kind of issues in their life, you almost hit rock bottom before you decide I've got to do something about this.
"I think this could be a day when he may well realise, you know what, now I do have to change."
