The jokes were absolutely inevitable after Christo Lamprecht hit a 418-yard drive during the opening round of Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Lamprecht carded an impressive opening round of 5-under 67 at Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa.

But what really caught the eye of golf fans was his enormous tee shot on No. 18 at the DP World Tour event.

If the name sounds familiar, it's because Lamprecht rose to the top of the leaderboard after day one of the 151st Open at Royal Liverpool in the summer.

The 6ft 8ins South African had just turned professional having won The Amateur Championship in some style.

He is known to frequently generate ball speeds touching 200mph during competition.

"I can definitely hit it further than most people," he previously told the PGA Tour official website.

You don't say.

Watch:

Golf fans were quick to point out his mammoth drive came a day after golf's rule-makers announced plans to rollback the ball.

From 2028, professionals are likely to see the distance they can launch tee shots shortened by around 15 yards.

"The new ball will fix him, he'll barely make 407 yards then," on X user wrote.

Another added: "Aye, he's gonna be severely affected by 15 yards loss of distance."

This person wrote: "Screw it. Roll it all the way back. Balatas for all the pros!"
