Tiger Woods labelled golf caddie a "f***ing clown" at 2006 Ryder Cup
Tiger Woods' caddie Steve Williams once dropped his golf club in the lake at the Ryder Cup!
Famous golf caddie Steve Williams has retold how he once made an absolute howler when looping for Tiger Woods in the Sunday Singles at the 2006 Ryder Cup following an interview on the Chasing Majors podcast.
Williams caddied for Woods for over a decade from 1999 to 2011, and he helped his man win 13 of his 15 career major titles.
The New Zealander is said to have earned in the region of $12m during his time with the former World No.1.
Woods also reportedly gave Williams 10 vehicles that he won at tournaments.
But despite all their success together, there was one particular moment that stands out for Williams where things did not go to plan.
Williams once lost one of Woods' golf clubs in the lake. It was a Nike Forged Blade 9-iron.
The incident came in the Sunday Singles of the 2006 Ryder Cup at The K Club in Ireland.
It happened at the 7th hole and it led to Woods calling Williams a "f***ing clown".
Woods was playing Robert Karlsson.
The club was eventually recovered eight holes later and Woods still went on to win his match 3&2.
But USA fell to a heavy 18.5-9.5 defeat at the hands of Ian Woosnam's European side.
Woods went 3-2-0 for the week.
Williams told the Chasing Majors podcast:
Williams explained how Woods took one look at him and then said:
The 9-iron was thankfully retrieved by the time they reached the 15th hole, but by then Woods was well in control of the match.
Woods played in eight Ryder Cup matches through the years from 1997 through to 2018.
His all-time record stands at 13-21-3, with his singles record at 4-2-2.
