Pros
Great feel and touch; superb distance control; heavy weight aids stability; incredibly pure roll; very forgiving; alignment instils confidence at address
Cons
Still thinking of one...

The PING Sigma 2 family, eleven in all, is designed for the golfer seeking a putter on the softer side of the spectrum with the lively response of a firm face - and the two mallets that excel most in our book are the 'Valor' and the 'Fetch'.

Of course, we would encourage you to look at all of the starting XI in PING's Sigma 2 family - after all, putting relies on personal preference than anything when it comes to design - but we can assure both the Valor and Fetch gave us everything we wanted and more. PING Sigma 2 putters - Key Features

It's a high-MOI mallet putter so comes with plenty of forgiveness, and it features a uniquely heel-toe ballast profile that aids tremendous stability with its relatively heavy 365-gram head.

Perhaps its finest quality comes in its alignment, with a long, contrasting alignment line generating tons of confidence over the ball in its beautiful stealth finish - something that also reduces glare should you be playing out in the sun.

PING Sigma 2 Putters - Performance and Forgiveness

There is a lovely soft feel at impact with the putter's 2-piece PEBAX face, and we noted superb distance control on a range of putts whether it was from 10 feet or 40 feet. We also enjoyed the feel of the grip.

It also comes fitted with PING's clever Adjustable Shaft Technology, allowing you to customise your putter between 32' and 36'. However, you can't change the length of it during a round of golf, so make sure you've done all this in practice before you head to the first tee!

PING has brought this feature into play on its putters following research that eight out of 10 players are playing the wrong length putter shaft. As a result, PING engineers designed the putter with an adjustable length shaft that keeps the grip perfectly aligned during the process to keep you square.

This putter might be priced toward the top end of the market, but that's with very good reason. You will not be disappointed with this one.

PING Sigma 2 - Looks and Feel

Meanwhile the Fetch is certainly the most distinctive putter on the market, but its circular design is by no means a gimmick.

Its shape aids efficient perimeter weighting and provides a high MOI putter with tons of stability that instils great confidence on those must-make short putts.

Just as in the case with the Valor, we also enjoyed the grip of this putter.

The alignment with the circle in the middle - the same size as a golf ball - along with its sight lines at the top and bottom very much add to its appeal. For us, one of the best alignments on any putter we've tested this season.

What's more, you can even pick up your golf ball with the circle to save you bending down - perfect for someone with a bad back like myself. We encourage you to take great care if you're plucking your ball out the cup with the putter, however, as we don't want anyone scuffing up the hole!

Some may consider it's a little pricey at £200, but can you really put a price on lower scores? Much of that is down to how seriously you take your golf and how quick you wish to improve.

We also recommend checking out the new iPING 2.0 app...

If you are interested in picking up a new PING putter for the new season, we recommend you take advantage of the brand's very cool new iPING 2.0 App that gives you the ability to measure what you can't see with the naked eye.

And what's more, it's absolutely FREE!

This app provides authorised PING club fitters and retailers a precise and easy-to-use tool to ensure golfers experience a Tour-level putter fitting.

PING's patented technology measures and analysed five key performance indicators in the putting stroke: 1) closing angle, 2) impact angle, 3) tempo, 4) lie angle, 5) shaft lean.

These stroke metrics, combined with detailed input from the golfer, are analysed by a proprietary fitting algorithm which recommends the proper stroke type, length, loft, lie and weight for a PING putter.

All your data will then appear on the screen in the shape of a Fitting Report, and you can even compare your stats up against Tour players to see how your putting stroke really stacks up!

It's a very cool tool, and one that can quickly help you improve on the greens as you'll see exactly where you're going wrong.

The iPING 2.0 app is compatible with iOS 10 (and above), iPhone 5 (or later) and iPod Touch 6th gen (or later).

Should I but the PING Sigma 2 putters?

These putters have some excellent qualities, including alignment and distance control, and they also look good too. On top of that, the PING 2.0 app is another useful addition. On the other hand, it's fairly pricey for a putter so if you're counting your cash then you may want to check out a better value option such as the Cleveland Frontline.
