Rory McIlroy struggles to contend despite MASSIVE eagle putt at Wells Fargo
Rory McIlroy couldn't get anything going Sunday at Quail Hollow, while Wyndham Clark earned his maiden PGA Tour victory.
Rory McIlroy's struggles from The Masters continued this week in North Carolina as the Northern Irishman failed to make a late charge up the leaderboard Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship.
McIlroy, 34, missed the cut at the season's first major in early April, and took a few weeks off from the PGA Tour before returning with this week's tournament.
He's won three times at Quail Hollow Club, the host of this week's tournament, including his maiden PGA Tour victory in 2010.
However, despite making the cut this week, McIlroy couldn't find his way into contention on Sunday.
He was able to drain an incredible 71-footer for eagle at the par-5 10th, but was still only able to card a 1-over par 72 to settle for a tie for 47th.

And while the 23-time PGA Tour winner was struggling, Wyndham Clark was on the other side of things as he found himself inside the PGA Tour's winners column for the first time in his career.
Clark, who turned professional in 2017, earned his maiden PGA Tour victory with a 3-under par 68 on Sunday.
The 29-year-old entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over World No. 5 Xander Schauffele.

However, he was able to pull away from Schauffele, winning by four strokes at 19-under par despite a bogey on his final hole.

With the win, Clark earns a massive payday on top of the 500 FedEx Cup points since the Wells Fargo Championship was a designated event.
The tournament featured a lucrative $20m purse, and Clark will take home a $3.6m from it.
Max Homa, the defending champion, finished tied for eighth.
