REVEALED: How much money Rory McIlroy has earned in 2022

So no major for Rory McIlroy in 2022 but the 33-year-old Northern Irishman has made quite simply a ridiculous amount of money. 

McIlroy finished the year as the World No.1 after a remarkably consistent season that was dominated by the off-course drama emanating from Greg Norman and LIV Golf. 

Despite his major drought continuing, the Ulsterman finished top of the rankings in the United States and in Europe.  

For the first time in his career, he finished inside the top-20 in putting stats on the PGA Tour and, from The Masters, he was the best wedge player from 75-125 yards.

It's quite the contrast from the McIlroy was reduced to tears at the Ryder Cup last September. 

The highlights of his year came in the form of winning the Tour Championship at East Lake on the PGA Tour, pipping Scottie Scheffler to the FedEx Cup and taking away the $18m bonus. 

It meant that TaylorMade staffer McIlroy was the first man to win three FedEx Cups. 

McIlroy also came second behind Tiger Woods in the PGA Tour's Player Impact Program, earning another pay day of $12m. 

He also picked up another big cheque at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, earning a bonus of $1.7m plus $475,000 for finishing fourth in the Rolex Series event. 

And this all came as McIlroy was involved in the enduring drama of LIV Golf. 

McIlroy has previously spoken about how he has hired sports psychologist Bob Rotella to help with his mental game. 

Apparently McIlroy has been chasing "state of mind" rather than performance this year, allowing him trade barbs with the aforementioned Norman and not let it distract him on the course. 

Speaking of that tour, McIlroy has actually earned more money in 2022 than LIV's Dustin Johnson. 

That's if you don't count Johnson's signing on bonus that is reported to have been $100m. 

Johnson - who captains the 4 Aces GC - previously joked that he should have earned more than $30m.
