Pro golfer given 4-SHOT PENALTY in PGA Tour Monday qualifier

PGA Tour player Wesley Bryan was given a four-shot penalty for having 15 clubs in his bag during the Monday qualifier for the Sanderson Farms Championship.

At Deerfield GC in Canton, Bryan was competing for a place in the second event of the 2023 PGA Tour schedule, but his chances came to an end when he discovered he had two 7-irons in his bag.

"That's the wrong 7-iron - you can go and add four to my score boys!" Bryan said to his playing partners in Mississippi.

"Yeah we definitely have too many. We have two 7-irons in there - you handed that to me I was like 'wait a second' - Can you imagine if we were like 4 or 5-under at this point?"

All credit to Bryan. He took the disappointment on the chin and laughed it off. Alejandro Tosti, Ben Silverman, Quade Cummins and Cole Hammer all got through to the event at the Country Club of Jackson, which was won by Sam Burns last season.

These four players came through a playoff on Monday which included five players. Rhein Gibson, who's made more PGA Tour starts in his career than his competitors, was the unlucky participant to miss out.

Bryan, who won the RBC Heritage in 2017, lost his playing rights on Tour at the Valspar Championship last season when he needed to finish in the top six to extend his status.

This was the last event that he played as part of his medical extension. He underwent surgery on his wrist in 2021, but he would fail to finish in the top 60 at the Copperhead Course.

The 32-year-old struggled to find form throughout last season. In 19 starts, he only made seven cuts and one top-25 finish at the Corales Puntacana Championship in March.
