Max Homa: What's in the bag of the six-time PGA Tour winner?
Max Homa came from five shots behind on Saturday in La Jolla to claim his sixth PGA Tour title and his second of the 2023 season.
12 months ago, Max Homa joked that he'd never missed a cut on a Thursday as he bowed out of the Farmers Insurance Open at the halfway stage.
The 32-year-old mastered the South Course at Torrey Pines on Saturday, coming from five shots behind to win his sixth PGA Tour title in what was a competitive and exciting final round.
Before 54-hole leader Sam Ryder made a critical double-bogey on the 15th hole, Homa hit a dart on the par-3 16th hole to set up a clutch birdie to move to 12-under. He also made a birdie on the 72nd hole to seal the deal on 13-under for the week.
It wasn't to be for World No.3 Jon Rahm. Looking for his third win in a row at the same scene as his US Open win in 2021, the Spaniard struggled to a 74 and a finish in tied seventh.
Four of Homa's wins have now come in his home state of California. He beat the field scoring average by over eight strokes in the final round as he surged to a 6-under 66.

"I think it's a ton of patience and a lot of confidence. Obviously, there are a ton of great players, that board was stacked, but I just had to know that - it's obviously a hard golf course. I had to just keep hitting good shots and keep hitting good putts," Homa said.
"And you're going to make bogeys and you're going to make birdies. Winning takes a lot of luck, but it just takes I think a lot of patience and knowing that, especially in these final rounds, 18 holes is a marathon and a lot of stuff goes on."
