Younger golfers now DOMINATE the golf green fee market
The 24-34 age category races ahead in the pay and play market, according to new figures...
New data has revealed the 24-34 age category now leads the race for the very first time when it comes to golfing demographics in the United Kingdom.
A surge in new golfers, particular younger players, have taken up the sport this year following the coronavirus pandemic. Much of this was down to golf being given a green light to resume play in mid-May during the lockdown ahead of the majority of other sports in the country.
According to new data collected by The Revenue Club for the month of June 2020, the 24-34 age category dominated the pay-and-pay market with 28% of the market buying green fees at golf clubs in the UK.
Furthermore, the 18-24 age category made up 15% of market for green fees when previously such age range had "not even been registered historically."
According to The Revenue Club, when you look back at data from 12 months ago in June 2019, it was the 65-plus age category that led the pay-and-play green fee market on 24%.
As a result of the increase in participation at golf courses up and down the UK, and golf clubs seeking to find additional revenue following the lockdown, the average price of green fees have now risen by £5 across the board to £24.73 from May to August.
A report in The Golf Business claims the "majority of golf clubs clawed back the deficit they made during the forced closure of their courses back in March and April within six weeks of reopening during May and June."
