New golf junior pro am series launched in the North East of England
Northern Junior Golf Tour and Albatross Golf Events to host The Junior Pro Am Summer Series in August 2021
The North East of England’s leading junior golf tour and golf events company are teaming up to launch a new series of pro am tournaments for junior golfers.
The Junior Pro Am Summer Series will provide an unrivalled competitive golf opportunity for the region’s young golfers, pairing them with PGA professionals in a tournament environment for the first time in the North East of England. Four events will take place this summer - at Macdonald Linden Hall (August 2), Prudhoe Golf Club (August 10), Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club (August 23) and Brancepeth Castle Golf Club (August 31).
Jason Budd, founder of the Northern Junior Golf Tour, said: “We’re very excited to add the series of pro ams to our successful calendar of Northern Junior Golf Tour events. The partnership with Albatross Golf Events adds another unique opportunity to the calendar for young golfers from across the north of England. For junior golfers, teaming up with a local PGA professional is a chance to learn up close from some of the best players in our area. We hope they’ll enjoy seeing how the professionals approach the game, learn a lot about the game at the very highest level, and enjoy a great day out at one of the region’s best courses.”
Albatross Golf Events co-founder and PGA professional Andrew Scrimshaw said: “We’ve been looking to work with Jason and the Northern Junior Golf Tour for a little while now, given the success the tour has had in growing junior participation across the north of England. PGA professionals spend a huge amount of time with juniors and this new series aims to give them another way to develop young golfers into better players, whether they go on to compete at an elite level or simply learn to enjoy the game even more through this unique experience. Albatross Golf Events was created to serve a niche audience, but as the business has developed, we’ve looked to broaden our appeal and create playing opportunities for a wide range of golfers - from those looking for tournament-level experiences through to the new series aimed at the youngest players. We hope youngsters enjoy the series, enjoy teaming up with their PGA pro or one of the excellent players from the local area, and learn from them in a relaxed and fun environment.”
Albatross Golf Events co-founder and PGA professional Martyn Jobling added: “Jason, Andrew and I all came through fantastic junior programmes led by PGA professionals, and we wanted to support the guys delivering the junior programmes with an event they can bring juniors to, while competing for a purse and showcasing the elite level of the game to the next generation of golfers. The format is something new to us, and new to our part of the UK, and we hope it provides a unique opportunity for PGA professionals and junior golfers. The series is a chance for our business to give something back to the professionals, clubs and juniors - and we hope to see everyone who takes part and gets to watch enjoy the four events.”
Teams of three junior golfers will be paired with a PGA professional for each 18-hole event, with a junior prize table worth £1,000 and a professional purse worth £2,500 up for grabs. Team entry for each event is £150 (£125 for three juniors and £25 for professionals) and includes a post-round meal as well as prizes for the top five teams and nearest the pin. Juniors aged 18 and under are eligible to play in the events, with a maximum handicap of 28 for boys and 36 for girls. While it is hoped juniors will team up with a PGA professional from their home club, a number of professionals will be on-hand to partner with groups should they be required.
In order to provide the best experience for juniors and professionals, the Northern Junior Golf Tour and Albatross Golf Events will be investing every penny raised through this series back into the events.
