Westwood aces the par-3 eighth at Carnoustie in Round One of the Alfred Dunhill Links
Lee Westwood hit the shot of the day on day one of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when making a hole-in-one at the par-3 eighth at Carnoustie.
Westwood carded an opening 3-under 69 at Carnoustie to lie six strokes behind first-round leader Justin Walters, who whizzed around the Old Course at St Andrews in 9-under par.
The Englishman exchanged a birdie with a bogey on his outward nine and then moved to 1-under when making a birdie at the par-5 sixth. But his day then got an awful lot better when slamming home his tee shot at the par-3 eighth.

Walters posted flawless round containing nine birdiesto hit the front and the journeyman South African pro takes a narrow one-stroke lead over France's Victor Perez and England's Jordan Smith, who both posted rounds of 64 on the Old Course.
Two-time Dunhill Links winner Tyrrell Hatton continued his form in this tournament with an opening 6-under 66 at Carnoustie, alongside compatriot Tommy Fleetwood, who is bidding to win his first tournament since the start of 2018.
Rory McIlroy birdied his final hole at Carnoustie to move to 2-under par, but the Northern Irishman was left to rue a disastrous double-bogey at the par-5 sixth when hitting his tee shot out of bounds.
Spain's Jon Rahm lies a further stroke back on 1-under par.
A contender to Westwood's shot of the day came from amateur Denis Bowden, playing alongside Neil Schietekat, who holed out for eagle from outside of 100 yards at the par-5 16th at Kingsbarns.
Bowden hit his approach behind the flag and used the slope of the green to bring it back to the hole and in for the cup.
